E-Rate: Filing Form 472 aka Getting Your Money!

The training will walk you through determining your invoicing method, 472 (BEAR), or 474 (SPI), reimbursement options, requesting billing credits, invoice deadline extension requests and, again, document retention.  Be sure to take a look at the documents associated with this webinar, particularly the Sample Reimbursement Worksheet.  The worksheet will help you to have all the necessary information available when filing your form 472 online.  It also provides you with documentation to refer to in the future if necessary.

Court Help Program

May first is National Law Day.  In anticipation of preparing for Law Day this year, BTOP is sponsoring a “Law in the Library” webinar series. This information is designed to give library staff members a clear understanding of the resources and on-line forms provided by various state agencies, as well as tools to plan and host a Law in the Library event.

This presentation on the Court Help Program will include a historical account of the creation and development of the Court Help Program, which has been an initiative of the Montana Supreme Court since 2007.  Erin Farris, the Program Administrator will also describe services currently available, including service locations, hours, and local program contacts.  Erin is eager to discuss how libraries can best collaborate with self help resources in your community.

Christine Mandiloff, Community Legal Education Attorney at Montana Legal Services Association, will help to answer these questions and others about assisting library patrons with legal problems. Christine will discuss where to find self-help legal information on-line; what self-help court forms are available; how to give legal information to patrons without crossing the line into giving legal advice, and what resources are available to help.

Google Docs – create and share documents on-line

With libraries providing more computing access to patrons, it is important to know how to use and be able to share the free tools that are available on the Internet.Google offers Google Docs, which is their on-line form of documents, spreadsheets, presentations, forms, drawings, and tables. Sign-up for a Google account and these are a free to users, along with the many other products Google offers. Google Docs allows you to store many different types of files and only those not created in Google Docs count against your storage space. Any time you have access to the Internet you have access to Google Docs.The user has the option to keep the documents private to his account or to share them. Each document and each folder can be shared with specific people or it can be made public for anyone to view. Windows Live SkyDrive – you can take it with you.

Microsoft Windows Live SkyDrive offers limited on-line use of their Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.  Simply register for a Windows Live ID and you are able to use these great tools. In addition, SkyDrive provides on–line document storage, so there is no need to remember a thumb drive. Users can create an Office document and save it to SkyDrive.  If they log-on to a different computer with Internet access, even one that does not have Office loaded, they can still use and modify their document from their SkyDrive account.  Best of all the on-line version of these Office products is free!
